Columbia Holds Town Hall-Style Meeting to Discuss Drugs

Columbia is one of 100 cities participating in a national townhall-style meeting aimed at tackling the issue of drugs.

Cities from around the country are hosting the meeting in an effort to brainstorm ideas to alleviate the war on drugs.

Here in Columbia, neighborhood leaders and law enforcement were part of a panel discussing ideas.

Those ideas will be combined with the ideas from other cities and presented to political candidates in an effort to raise awareness of issues that community leaders feel have been ignored.

Frank Sheheen was on the panel giving his views on the epidemic. For 25 years, Sheheen has been clean and sober but still considers himself a recovering heroin addict.

"I am a sober addict. I will always be an addict," Sheheen says.

Today, Sheheen is a counselor with the "Recovering Professional Program," which helps those in the medical field with addictions.

The program offers 24-hour assistance, seven days a week. To learn more, visit their web site.
